Butterfly effect of usability
After being released to GA, SCIS Data Explorer experienced issues with product adoption. Recognizing a clear need to address client feedback and enhance usability, the team prioritized redesigning and expanding functionality of the Data Explorer Shipment Detail Page.
Client's rely on the Shipment Detail Pages to track the real-time status and progress of individual shipments. As B2B clients manage hundreds of shipments per day, reducing time-on-task and reliability of key information is vital to orchestrate timely and cost-effective movement of goods.
Enhancing 0→1 product UIs to scale alongside client business needs
Supply chain organizations needed a design that could adapt to their diverse business needs and processes.
At the time, SCIS was still a young 0→1 product. Despite enthusiasm to grow, we faced backend architecture limitations and research debt. As the lead product designer, I owned the discovery and design delivery. I partnered with PM, engineering, user research, and subject-matter experts to refactor and expand the existing Shipment Detail Page—focused on creating an intuitive UI with ability to scale.
User testing and following client engagements indicated an increase in product adoption. Users communicated desire to use the redesign over it's predecessor and additionally expressed interest in further exploring product suite features and functionality.
I greatly enjoyed deep-diving into subject-matter alongside developers and PM. Contributing to business object and architecture discussions gave me confidence in making design decisions that were not only tooling improvements but authentic to the backend code. Partnering closely also allowed me to influence phasing of implementation.
